Background/Aim:
Obstructive sleep apnea syndrome is a common disorder that is diagnosed via polysomnography. However, polysomnography is complex and expensive. Therefore, the aim of this study was to develop a novel snore recording application to evaluate sleep apnea status.
Patients And Methods:
First, we monitored 67 participants using a two-channel portable monitor and a smartphone recording application. Acoustic data and SpO2 or airflow data from 25 participants whose apnea-hypopnea index (AHI) was ≥5 were used to develop an algorithm for evaluating sleep apnea.
Results:
The coefficient of determination of the AHI between the portable monitor and the snore recording application was 0.8341, indicating a very high correlation. The sensitivity and specificity of the snore recording application are 86.9% and 83.3%, respectively. The data of the validation cohort were collected prior to the start of the study, during the course of the study, and on the final analysis date of the study. The validation study revealed a high correlation (R2=0.5448) of the AHI between the portable monitor and the snore recording application.
Conclusion:
A novel snore recording application was strongly correlated with two-channel portable monitoring of the AHI.
