Abstract:
Four undescribed compounds, including one new sesquiterpene lactone (1, coriarilactone A), two new phenylpropanoid glycosides (2 and 3, corianosides A and B), and one new coumarin (4, coriacoumarin A), together with five known sesquiterpenes, were isolated from the leaves of the toxic medicinal plant Coriaria nepalensis. The structures of 1-4 were elucidated through a combination of extensive NMR spectroscopic analysis, HRESIMS, and X-ray crystallography. Notably, compounds 2-3 possess a rare heptose moiety, which were isolated from the Coriariaceae family for the first time. Compound 1 exhibited potential neuroprotective activity. All compounds showed no convulsant neurotoxicity and no remarkable inhibitory activity toward four human cancer cell lines.

For acyclic saturated monocarboxylic acids, the longest hydrocarbon chain containing the –COOH carbon is identified as the parent chain. Then, the last -e of the parent hydrocarbon name is replaced with a suffix -oic acid.
