Late Extraction of Micra AV and Implantation of Right Atrial Leadless Pacemaker

Background:
Tine-based leadless pacemakers have been commercially implanted over the last 10 years. Retrieval of older devices is rarely discussed and based on rare case reports only.
Methods:
A retrospective review of an extraction case of a Micra AV leadless pacemaker was performed. Internal Review Board approval was obtained.
Results:
After successful lead extraction and implant of Aveir leadless device in a 44-year-old female, retrieval of a 5.5-year-old Micra AV was performed using the Aveir extraction tool, under transesophageal echocardiogram guidance. No complications occurred.
Conclusions:
Successful, safe extraction of a 5.5-year-old Micra leadless device can be performed with the Aveir retrieval device after immediate lead extraction.
