Creating a culture of well-being: How a committee transformed a hospital

A 341-bed Magnet® hospital established a clinician wellness committee in response to high levels of nurse burnout and workforce challenges. Using staff survey data to guide priorities, the committee implemented evidence-based initiatives targeting physical health, mental health, safety, and leadership engagement. Interventions included hydration stations, wellness challenges, therapy dog visits, serenity spaces, stress management training, and enhanced security measures. Strong leadership support and shared governance empowered staff participation and sustained engagement. Over time, these efforts reduced burnout rates and strengthened workplace culture, demonstrating that coordinated, low-cost, and multidisciplinary strategies can effectively promote clinician well-being and resilience in a postpandemic health care environment.
