A new synthesis of substituted oxasilinanes is described, starting from diallylsilanes and featuring a diastereoselective rhenium(VII) oxide-catalyzed allylic transposition of an intermediate 8-membered ring cyclic silyl ether. The results obtained suggest reversibility for the allylic transposition reaction, evidenced by time-dependent diastereoselectivity and formation of the more thermodynamically stable cis-substitued oxasilinane product.
