[An interactive guidance therapy for traumatic perinatal bereavement]

The Early Childhood and Parenting Unit within the Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy Department at the Reims University Hospital offers an early parent-child care program, notably through Interactive Guidance Therapy (IGT). This intervention is based on a highly structured framework, which makes it very reassuring and supportive for both the child and the parent. This approach allows the therapist to more easily access the intimacy of the parent-child relationship. The microanalysis of interactions filmed with the parent-recognized as the expert on their child-enables a different perspective on the dynamics of these interactions. Traumatic parental experiences, sometimes unspeakable, may emerge when observing nonverbal behaviors through video. IGT thus facilitates an understanding of the emotional knots within parent-child interactions.
