In aqueous zinc-iodine batteries, Zn anodes face critical interfacial challenges that degrade the efficiency and safety. This work develops an artificial solid electrolyte interphase using modified montmorillonite with tailored surface chemistry and interlayer spacing to modulate the redox kinetics and suppress side reactions.
