Utilizing a base mediated approach, we demonstrate the selective decomposition of perfluoro-3-methoxypropanoic acid (PFMPA), an emerging enviornmental contaminant. The key products: tetrafluoroethylene, fluoride, and carbonyl fluoride can all be trapped with endogenous additives to furnish halotetrafluoroalkanes, phosphinic fluorides, ureas, and carbamoyl fluorides.
