Time-Efficient Visual Field Testing Using the Imo Visual Function Analyzer in Glaucoma

Prcis:
Novel visual field measurement algorithm AIZE EX significantly reduced test duration without significantly compromising the accuracy.
Purpose:
To compare the accuracy and time of Ambient Interactive Zippy Estimation by Sequential Testing (AIZE) and time-saving Extra Mode (AIZE EX), using the imo visual function analyzer.
Patients And Methods:
This retrospective study included 80 eyes from 59 patients with glaucoma who underwent visual field testing with both AIZE and AIZE EX strategies with the 24plus (1-2) test grid. Test duration, global indices (mean deviation [MD], pattern standard deviation [PSD], and visual field index [VFI]), and the number of significantly abnormal points on pattern deviation plots were compared. Differences in visual field sensitivity were analyzed at each individual test point.
Results:
AIZE EX significantly reduced test duration by approximately 40% (202.6±35.2 vs. 358.5±76.3 seconds, P<0.001). Although AIZE EX showed significantly better MD (-6.9±7.3 vs. -7.7±7.2 dB), VFI (81.6±20.2 vs. 80.3±20.4%), and PSD (8.1±4.3 vs. 8.5±4.4 dB) (all P<0.001), differences were small. Strong correlations were observed between strategies for all global indices (P<0.001). Abnormal points on pattern deviation plots at P<2% and<5% were fewer with AIZE EXAIZE (P=0.005 and P<0.001).
Conclusions:
AIZE EX considerably reduced test time. Test results of AIZE EX strongly correlated with those of AIZE, but AIZE EX showed slightly higher sensitivity values. These results show AIZE EX effectively reduces test time without significantly compromising measurement accuracy, potentially reducing patient fatigue and improving acceptance of the test.
