The robotic approach has the potential to expand the advantages of minimally invasive surgery due to improved visualization, more sophisticated instruments, precise dissection, and better ergonomics. However, its benefits are not universal. For inguinal hernias, available data do not demonstrate a significant advantage over laparoscopy, particularly given the higher costs and often longer operative times. Conversely, for ventral hernias - especially large and complex defects - robotics enables advanced reconstructive techniques that are difficult to perform laparoscopically, shortens hospital stays, and reduces the incidence of complications. Indications for the robotic approach in hernia surgery are selective; study results are limited by the heterogeneity of the cohorts, short follow-up periods, and a lack of robust data. Cost-effectiveness remains debatable in our setting and depends primarily on the type of hernia. Moving forward, the creation of robust databases and the standardization of indications are key to a more accurate assessment of the true benefits of robotic surgery.
