Abstract:
Northern blotting (shortly "Northern") is a classical method for RNA detection and measurement but has been overshadowed by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) in recent days. This is largely due to the highly sensitive nature of qRT-PCR. Nonetheless, a unique advantage of Northern is its ability to distinguish between different RNA isoforms. Having this unique advantage, it is unlikely that Northern would become an obsolete method for RNA detection, especially in the field of molecular biology.
