Abstract:
Firearm violence is a global humanitarian crisis and a leading cause of death among children and adolescents. This article synthesizes epidemiologic data, subgroup disparities, psychosocial consequences, and evidence-informed intervention strategies. Particular attention is given to the after-school period, school and community-based interventions, and the role of pediatric clinicians in prevention. Policy implications, gaps in data, and future directions are also discussed. Firearm violence must be recognized as a pediatric public health emergency requiring coordinated action across clinical, community, and policy domains.
