Abstract:
Three-dimensional organoid cell cultures are an in vitro model that is more similar to the in vivo environment than other cell culture methods. Because of this, organoids are a powerful alternative to live animal research studies. Cryopreservation of organoids is essential when working with a tissue source that is not readily available at all times, and a cryo-repository of organoids allows these cell cultures to be performed as needed. The cryopreservation and thawing protocols must be optimized for each species and tissue type to ensure the optimal cellular viability and proliferation after freeze-thawing. The protocol provided here has been used to cryopreserve various types of reproductive cell cultures (oviduct and endometrium) in several domestic and wildlife species.
