Abstract:
Academic radiology has traditionally focused on recruitment and retention, while giving less attention to faculty renewal and the creation of intentional, protected opportunities for professional growth, reflection, and reconnection with meaningful work. We reframe renewal beyond the traditional sabbatical, proposing flexible approaches such as minisabbaticals, professional development leave, and locally based experiences that can strengthen faculty engagement, leadership, innovation, and retention. Faculty renewal should therefore be viewed not simply as an individual benefit, but as institutional infrastructure essential to sustaining the academic mission.
