Abstract:
Vascular invasion is a common feature of renal cell carcinoma and intraoperative tumor thrombus embolization during surgical resection, although rare, is a devastating complication. Temporary inferior vena cava filters have been used in certain cases to protect against thrombi during large-vessel oncologic surgeries; however, the ProTrieve system (Stryker-Inari Medical) has not been well studied in this context. We report two cases in which intraoperative deployment of the ProTrieve sheath effectively captured embolized tumor thrombus.
