[Bicanalicular ring intubation of the lacrimal ducts]

Canalicular lacrimal duct stenoses, including phimosis of the lacrimal puncta, are frequent and can sometimes pose major challenges for ophthalmic plastic surgeons. Following the opening or dilation of the lacrimal ducts, temporary intubation is recommended to maintain or enhance the dilating effect. Bicanalicular ring intubation, as described by Murube del Castillo, has fallen into obscurity for many ophthalmic plastic surgeons. This article highlights the indications, the underlying anatomy, and the surgical procedure for this well-established technique.
