Objectives:
to describe the development of a Middle-Range Theory for Risk-Prone Health Behavior in College Students.
Methods:
this theoretical study is geared towards developing a theory by combining inductive techniques through conceptual analysis and focus groups, and by deriving concepts from Dorothy Johnson's Behavioral Systems Theory.
Results:
the theory articulates eight primary concepts, ten secondary concepts, ten assumptions, and ten propositions that, together, seek to describe and explain the college context, its constitutive dimensions, and the manifestation of health conduct, health behaviors, risk-prone health behaviors, and risk behaviors.
Final Considerations:
the theory provides a theoretical and practical basis that overcomes the reductionist view of risk-prone health behaviors in college students, promoting an integrated analysis of the individual, their determinants and behavioral stages, and guiding nursing practice.
