Abstract:
Healthcare delivery now exceeds the cognitive and operational capacity of individual clinicians, making effective teams the core units of clinical performance. Professionalism serves as a stabilizing force within these systems. This review presents an evidence-based leadership framework for building and sustaining high-performing clinical teams through coordinated intelligence: the collective ability to rapidly integrate distributed expertise to improve patient outcomes. Clinical leadership therefore centers on creating teams capable of consistent collective excellence, grounded in individual accountability, shared responsibility, and internally sustained standards.
