Abstract:
Strategy in healthcare remains an evolving field and has become a centerpiece of sustainability. Physician leaders have a unique opportunity to shape the future of their organizations by engaging in learning, developing, and implementing strategic approaches. This article summarizes key components of a successful strategy, including its distinction from operational effectiveness, approaches for each stage of business maturity, the required leadership skills, and tools for implementing a framework. Lastly, this review aims to highlight the limitations of current practices (including value-based care) and the importance of innovation in uncovering new opportunities.
