Editorial Commentary: Hip Microinstability: Stability Is the Goal, Plication Is a Tool
1University of Texas Health Sciences Center, McGovern Medical School, Houston, Texas, U.S.A.
Abstract:
Hip microinstability remains one of the most challenging conditions we encounter in hip preservation surgery. The difficulty is not performing a capsular plication but determining when instability is truly present and clinically relevant. In our experience, no single clinical, radiographic, or intraoperative finding should define the diagnosis. Rather, the entire clinical picture must be considered when evaluating the potentially unstable hip. Capsular plication represents an important component of this strategy but should not be considered in isolation. Careful diagnosis and thoughtful patient selection remain fundamental to successful treatment of hip microinstability.
