Abstract:
This article aims to provide a comprehensive review of imaging features of non-compressive spinal cord degeneration. It covers a range of disorders including multiple sclerosis, motor neuron disease, hereditary ataxias, metabolic myelopathies, and acquired conditions. The article highlights the diagnostic limitations of conventional MRI and points out the role of advanced quantitative techniques such as diffusion tensor imaging and magnetization transfer imaging in detecting structural changes that underpin early disease. It concludes by outlining the pathway for integrating conventional and advanced imaging techniques with the clinical picture to reach an accurate diagnosis.
