Abstract:
CHR101 ( ZmDDM1A ) encodes a chromatin remodeling factor involved in DNA methylation maintenance and transposable element silencing in maize. We analyzed two Mutator (Mu) insertion alleles of Chr101 : chr101-m1 , containing an insertion in the 5' untranslated region, and chr101-m3 , containing an insertion in exon 3. Quantitative RT-PCR revealed that Chr101 transcript abundance was reduced by approximately 76-93% in both homozygous mutant lines at juvenile (V4) and adult (V7) vegetative stages. Reduced expression of Aspartic Proteinase A1 ( Apa1 ) was also observed in the mutant backgrounds examined.

Trihybrid Crosses
Some of Mendel’s crosses examined three pairs of contrasting characteristics. Such a cross is called a trihybrid cross. A trihybrid cross is a combination of three individual monohybrid crosses. For example, plant height (tall vs. short), seed shape (round vs. wrinkled), and seed color (yellow vs. green).
The F1 generation plants of a trihybrid cross are heterozygous for all three traits and produce eight gametes. Upon self-fertilization, these gametes have an equal chance to...
