Abstract:
With the continuous advancement in modern infrared detection technologies, efficient infrared stealth materials with features of lightweight and high mechanical strength are urgently desired in many fields. In this study, natural bamboo fibers were employed as a renewable substrate and were processed into lightweight and robust infrared stealth bamboo fibrous (HsIs-Bamboo) via oxidative defibration, ionic cross-linking, vacuum-assisted loading, and hot pressing. The fabricated bamboo fibrous composite enables uniform dispersion of functional particles, resulting in low infrared emissivity (65-73% in 8-14 μm), lightweight (0.80 g cm-3), and high mechanical strength (specific tensile strength of 385.9 MPa cm3 g-1). The composite also exhibits low-cost, efficient flame retardancy, and superior infrared shielding performance with a 10.6 °C decrease in the infrared thermal imaging test. This novel infrared stealth material from natural bamboo offers a promising solution for the stealth protection of critical facilities and holds substantial application potential as a highly robust infrared stealth material in weight-sensitive circumstances.
