Lifestyle Medicine Meets Diabetes Self-Management Education and Support: Understanding Roles, Credentials, and
1Skills Education, Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science, North Chicago, IL, USA (SBS).
Abstract:
Lifestyle interventions can provide meaningful clinical benefits in the prevention and management of diabetes, but achieving these benefits requires structured education and ongoing support. For people living with diabetes, diabetes self-management education and support (DSMES) offers an established, person-centered approach to building the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to make lifestyle changes part of daily life with the potential to reduce medications, particularly when glycemia improves with the lifestyle interventions.
