Abstract:
Swiss hospital and prehospital emergency services are under increasing pressure. In this context, community emergency response systems aim to optimize the deployment of human and material resources in a way proportionate to prehospital settings in which emergencies are predominantly classed as non-urgent. Nevertheless, professionals occasionally encounter more complex situations whose resolution could be supported through. This article explores the potential of telemedicine in prehospital emergency care. Specifically, the pressures on emergency services are presented, and community emergency models are described as a possible solution. Finally, we discuss the benefits and challenges of prehospital telemedicine and suggest avenues for adaptation to the needs of community paramedics.
