Abstract:
The 18th Annual European CME Forum (18ECF), took place 5-7 November 2025 in Manchester, United Kingdom, bringing together stakeholders from across the global continuing medical education (CME) and continuing professional development (CPD) community to examine the theme "Valuing CME/CPD". The programme was structured around three perspectives on educational value: Purposeful, Meaningful, and Impactful. Following pre-meeting sessions, participants engaged in workshops, discussions, oral poster presentations, learner-focused and case-based activities, and sessions addressing European and global perspectives. Topics included demonstrating educational value, outcomes and performance measurement, implementation science, learner motivation and engagement, artificial intelligence, patient involvement, interprofessional education, accreditation, compliance, and international variation in CME/CPD systems. The Forum also featured articles from the Journal of CME 2025 Special Collection, "The value of CME/CPD". Across the meeting, discussions emphasised the need to move beyond participation and satisfaction measures towards evidence of changes in professional performance, healthcare improvement, and patient care. Participants also considered how educational design can better reflect learner needs, local healthcare contexts, and evolving technologies. The Forum reinforced the importance of collaboration among providers, accreditors, medical societies, grantors, learners, and other stakeholders in supporting independent, relevant, and effective education. The meeting provided an independent and neutral environment for dialogue, shared learning, and collaboration across stakeholder groups. This report summarises the principal sessions, discussions, and key themes emerging from 18ECF.
