Abstract:
Two articles in this issue report on early Japanese clinical implementation of histotripsy for liver tumors and pressurized intraperitoneal aerosol chemotherapy for peritoneal metastases. Together, these reports illustrate how procedure-dependent technologies enter a new healthcare system and how their early clinical use can be evaluated. The clinical value of such interventions depends on more than device access or operator skill. It requires patient selection, appraisal of evidence from abroad, regulatory and ethical review, simulations, multidisciplinary workflow, safety governance, and outcome assessment that separates technical completion from patient benefit. Japan has the clinical expertise and institutional structures to carefully introduce selected technologies, but first-in-country use should serve as a starting point for local evidence generation rather than an endpoint. A practical pathway is proposed in which initial clinical introduction is embedded within protocolized evaluation and followed by assessment of reproducibility and comparison with established treatment options.

Non-controlled studies, commonly employed for initial exploration, lack a control group, rendering them susceptible to biases and external influences. In contrast, controlled...
Study Designs in Epidemiology
Observational studies are those where the researcher does not intervene but rather observes natural variations. They include cross-sectional, cohort, and case-control studies.

Pharmacovigilance
This process, termed pharmacovigilance, aims to detect, evaluate, and minimize harmful effects related to medication use. The data collection for pharmacovigilance depends on spontaneous reporting systems, where healthcare professionals or patients voluntarily report suspected ADRs.
