Abstract:
We ran two workshops in a preliminary investigation into who can benefit from content reading services. Workshop participants were people with age-related macular degeneration and people with aphasia. Through discussions, testing of services, creating personas, and a survey, we found that there are groups that would benefit from content reading services that normally do not use screen readers. This shows this service would be a useful tool in a universal design solution. We introduce the concept of digital tipping point for when demands from digital services go beyond a person's own abilities and need additional support.
