Abstract:
This paper analyses barriers to the effective use of assistive technologies in digital work environments, particularly for visually impaired employees. Drawing on practice- and research-based knowledge, it identifies interrelated barriers at technical, organisational, and systemic levels. The findings show how limitations in universal design constrain assistive technologies and increase reliance on reactive, individual adaptations. The paper proposes measures across the three levels and highlights universal design as a necessary foundation for more sustainable and inclusive participation in working life.
