Proptosis secondary to closure of the lids posterior to the globe

A five-year-old black male was seen with acute unilateral proptosis of one to two centimeters following blunt trauma with retraction of the eyelids behind the involved eye. The proptosis was cured by performing a lateral canthotomy and replacement of the eyelids in front of the globe.
