[Tumors of the upper urothelium. Review and treatment]
Abstract:
The authors review nine case (seven in men and two in women) of upper urothelial tumors found in 32,000 general clinical histories and 3,100 urologic histories. All patients belonged to rural environments, and meat was an essential part of their diets; 67 per 100 of the cases had a familial history of different types of cancer. The first sign of disease was a macroscopic hematuria in all the patients. Regarding tumor localization, four cases were renal, one of them pyelocalyceal at a time, and five ureteral with vesical involvement, one of them associated to a retroperitoneal malignant histiocytoma. All the patients were treated by surgery.
