[Prostatic squamous cell cancer and its differential diagnostic contrast with squamous cell metaplasia]

Thirteen (2.2%) squamous-cell carcinomas were found among 600 autopsy cases of prostatic carcinoma. In the surgical material squamous-cell carcinoma was observed in 3 cases (1.7%). Clinical and morphological analysis of these 16 cases together with the published observations shows squamous-cell carcinoma of the prostate to have a grave clinical course and bad prognosis. One observation of the erroneous histologic diagnosis of carcinoma in case of squamous-cell duct and gland metaplasia of the prostate is reported. The differential-diagnostic differences between dyshormonal squamous-cell metaplasia and squamous-cell carcinoma of the prostate are described.
