Does glucose affect phospholipase A2 activity in pancreatic islets?
Abstract:
Rat pancreatic islet homogenates catalyzed the production of labelled oleate and lysophosphatidylcholine from 1-palmitoyl-2-[1-14C] oleoylphosphatidylcholine and di[1-14C] stearoylphosphatidylcholine, respectively. The phospholipase A2 was activated by Ca2+ (Ka approximately 0.5 mM) and inhibited by mepacrine. No difference in enzymic activity was found in glucose-deprived and glucose-stimulated islets, respectively.
