    Area of Science:

    • Thoracic Surgery
    • Neurosurgery
    • Trauma Management

    Background:

    • Subarachnoid-pleural fistula is a rare complication following severe thoracic trauma.
    • Previous management strategies for traumatic subarachnoid-pleural fistula have varied, often involving complex interventions.

    Observation:

    • A patient presented with a traumatic subarachnoid-pleural fistula.
    • The fistula resulted from significant thoracic injury.

    Findings:

    • Successful management was achieved through closed tube thoracostomy.
    • The therapeutic approach deviated from previously documented methods for similar conditions.

    Implications:

    • Closed tube thoracostomy represents a viable and potentially less invasive option for managing traumatic subarachnoid-pleural fistulas.
    • This case highlights the need for flexible and individualized treatment strategies in managing rare traumatic injuries.
