    Summary

    Cardiogenic shock in acute myocardial infarction (MI) patients is linked to severe hypokinesis in the remaining left ventricle. This contrasts with normokinetic or hyperkinetic function in MI patients without shock, suggesting a key difference in cardiac performance.

    Background:

    • Cardiogenic shock is a severe complication of acute myocardial infarction (MI).
    • Understanding the mechanisms of cardiogenic shock is crucial for improving patient outcomes.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the left ventricular (LV) wall motion abnormalities in patients with cardiogenic shock secondary to acute MI.
    • To identify differences in LV kinetics between patients with and without cardiogenic shock.

    Main Methods:

    • Two-dimensional echocardiography was used to assess LV wall motion in five patients with cardiogenic shock due to acute MI.
    • Echocardiographic findings were correlated with autopsy results.

    Main Results:

    • One patient developed cardiogenic shock after interventricular septum rupture; four had primary cardiogenic shock.
