Summary

Severe iodine deficiency in rats induced hypothyroidism, reducing resting metabolic rate and liver alpha-glycerophosphate dehydrogenase. Liver alpha-GPD proved a more sensitive indicator of impending hypothyroidism than oxygen consumption.
