    Summary

    In alcoholic liver disease, total E rosette-forming cells (E-RFC) decrease, while stable E-RFC (activated T cells) increase, particularly in alcoholic hepatitis. Monitoring stable E-RFC may help assess disease activity.

    Background:

    • Alcoholic liver disease encompasses alcoholic hepatitis (AH) and alcoholic cirrhosis (AC).
    • T cell subpopulations play a role in immune responses within liver disease.
    • E rosette-forming cells (E-RFC) are indicators of T cell populations.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate alterations in circulating total E-RFC and stable E-RFC (activated T cells) in patients with AH and AC.
    • To compare these T cell markers between patients and healthy controls.
    • To determine the potential utility of stable E-RFC in assessing disease activity in AH.

    • Studied total E-RFC and stable E-RFC in 10 AH patients, 15 AC patients, and 20 healthy controls.
