A double-blind study comparing sulindac with indomethacin in rheumatoid arthritis

Forty-two patients with definite or classical rheumatoid arthritis were included in a 6-week double-blind study to compare sulindac with indomethacin. Patients were randomly assigned to therapy, either sulindac 100 mg b.i.d. (plus indomethacin placebo) or indomethacin 25 mg t.i.d. (plus sulindac placebo). As required dosage was increased to either sulindac 200 mg b.i.d. or indomethacin 50 mg t.i.d. Efficacy of the two drugs was found to be equal but sulindac was better tolerated than indomethacin.
