[Immunosuppressant effect of hydrocortisone during blockade of the mononuclear phagocytizing system]

The effect of hydrocortisone under conditions of blockade of the mononuclear phagocyte system (MPS) on antibody response in mice has been studied. The injection of hydrocortisone 4 and 48 hours before SRBC immunization suppressed humoral immune response. No increase in the suppression of immune response was observed after the injection of hydrocortisone under condition of MPS blockade. Hydrocortisone is supposed to affect, at least under the given experimental conditions, the macrophage stage of immunogenesis.
