In piles, anal fissure sclerosis and primary achalasia the internal anal sphincter muscle is the focus of a vicious circle. By subcutaneous internal sphincterotomy, a causal measure, this circle can be broken through without the danger of incontinence. This could be demonstrated by rectal pressure readings. The early results are satisfactory.
