Circulating immune complexes in children with acute poststreptococcal glomerulonephritis

    Summary

    Circulating immune complexes (CIC) were detected in nearly half of children with acute poststreptococcal glomerulonephritis. Their presence correlated with longer proteinuria duration, suggesting a role in disease progression.

    Background:

    • Acute poststreptococcal glomerulonephritis (APSGN) is an immune-mediated kidney disease.
    • Circulating immune complexes (CIC) are implicated in various glomerulonephritides.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the prevalence and significance of CIC in children with APSGN.
    • To explore the relationship between CIC and clinical parameters, including disease severity and proteinuria duration.

    Main Methods:

    • Sera from 22 children with acute APSGN were analyzed for CIC during the acute phase and follow-up.
    • Clinical and laboratory parameters were assessed to measure disease severity.
    • Correlation analysis was performed between CIC presence and clinical outcomes.
