This study evaluated a new extracorporeal shockwave lithotripsy (SWL) device with integrated ultrasound. The Dornier Compact machine demonstrated effectiveness in fragmenting kidney stones, with mild side effects and good stone-free rates at two weeks.

Background:

Purpose of the Study:

  • To assess the safety and effectiveness of a new electromagnetic extracorporeal shockwave lithotripsy (SWL) device with integrated ultrasound imaging.
  • To evaluate stone fragmentation and stone-free rates in patients treated with this novel SWL system.

  • A prospective study involving 88 patients (93 renal units) treated with the Dornier Compact SWL machine.
  • 135 stones were treated, with continuous ultrasound monitoring for localization and safety.
