Abstract:
Immunocompromise due to malignancy or to cytotoxic chemotherapy with resulting neutropenia creates a high risk of infection among cancer patients. The frequent presence of long-dwelling vascular catheters in these patients adds to this risk. Recent data regarding the epidemiology, diagnosis, management, and prevention of vascular catheter related infections are discussed.
