Summary

Tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF alpha) activates stress-activated protein kinases (SAPKs) and NF-kappa B. Ceramide, generated by sphingomyelinases, acts as a second messenger for some TNF alpha effects, stimulating SAPK activity and c-jun gene expression.
