Epidemiology and psychosocial aspects of incontinence

UI in women is a highly prevalent condition. It affects women of all ages, domicile, or health status. UI is highly correlated with several medical conditions, including physical mobility problems, neurologic conditions, bowel problems, respiratory problems, and lower urinary tract problems. It also affects negatively the social and psychologic well-being of the affected individual. Many of the urodynamic parameters commonly tested showed no significant difference between continent and incontinent subjects. The few parameters that showed significant difference between the two groups have values that are overlapping. Lastly, the incidence and remission rates of urinary incontinence in elderly women are available and are significant.
