Summary

Eosinophilic gastroenteritis, a rare GI disorder, can cause intestinal obstruction. Surgical intervention led to symptom resolution in three patients, even without peripheral eosinophilia.

Background:

  • Eosinophilic gastroenteritis is a rare gastrointestinal disorder characterized by eosinophilic infiltration of the GI tract.

Observation:

  • This report details three cases of eosinophilic gastroenteritis presenting with significant intestinal obstruction.
  • Two cases involved stenotic lesions in the jejunum, while the third case presented with ileal involvement.

Findings:

  • None of the three patients exhibited peripheral eosinophilia, a common but not universal finding in this condition.
  • All patients successfully underwent bowel resection-anastomosis, a surgical procedure to remove and reconnect segments of the intestine.
  • Post-operative follow-up ranging from 8 months to 6 years revealed complete symptom resolution in all cases.
