Summary

Silent thyroiditis involves increased activated T cells, particularly helper/inducer T cells, in both thyrotoxic and recovery phases. This T cell activation may play a key role in the development of silent thyroiditis.

  • These findings suggest a potential autoimmune component involving T cell hyperactivity.
