The role of radiation in breast conserving therapy

Conservation therapy, consisting of tumor excision followed by irradiation, is an accepted alternative to mastectomy for many women with early breast cancer. The goals of this treatment approach are tumor control and acceptable breast cosmesis. Optimal results require appropriate patient selection and careful attention to a number of treatment-related variables.
