Nail resembling cutaneous horn occurring after acral bone loss

A patient with leprosy and an anesthetic left hand noted a hornlike nail on his index finger after recurrent trauma and infection had resulted in acral bone loss. This case illustrates the importance of an intact terminal phalanx in the formation of a normal nail plate.
