Summary

Patients with lateral epicondylitis showed an absent sympathetic vasomotor response (SVR) in affected skin. This suggests sympathetic nervous system dysfunction may contribute to epicondylitis pain.

Background:

  • Lateral epicondylitis, commonly known as tennis elbow, is a painful condition affecting the tendons of the forearm.
  • The role of the sympathetic nervous system in localized pain conditions like epicondylitis is not fully understood.
  • Microvascular blood flow regulation is crucial for tissue health and pain perception.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the sympathetic vasomotor response (SVR) in patients with lateral epicondylitis.
  • To determine if alterations in SVR are associated with the pathogenesis of epicondylitis pain.
  • To explore the potential involvement of local sympathetic nervous system dysfunction.
